Madonna VISITS CITY'S KABBALAH CENTRE
By BRIAN GRAY, TORONTO SUN
THE MATERIAL Girl had a spiritual lunch in Toronto yesterday. Madonna spent more than two hours at the Kabbalah Centre on Sheppard Ave. W. only to disappoint a handful of fans gathered outside when she left.
"I waved and said 'Hello,' but she didn't even wave back," said Melissa, who considers herself a big fan of the pop star. "I thought it was rude."
Shortly before 1:30 p.m. Madonna and her entourage walked a short distance from the centre's door to her waiting motorcade of SUVs without acknowledging the well-wishers.
Melissa said she would get over the snub. Others in the group said they understood Madonna -- in town for three concerts, tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday at the ACC -- needs her privacy.
"She makes beautiful music and I will continue to be one of her greatest fans," said Grace, outside the centre. Kabbalah is Jewish mysticism based on oral teachings passed down for thousands of years.
Madonna -- who recently announced she wanted to be known by the name of Jewish heroine Esther -- has been a follower for several years and wears a red thread around her wrist to ward off evil, according to Kabbalah teachings.
More tickets are available for all three shows after initially selling out. Prices are $49.50 to $300 and can be purchased through TicketMaster.
