Madonna nagyon közel vanhozzá, hogy (megint) történelmet írjon, méghozzá egy újabb rekorddal. Ha sikerül ezen a héten bekerülni új dalának, a 4 Minutes-nek a Billboard lista első tíz legjobbja közé (a szakértők szerint erre nem kicsi az esély), akkor ő lesz a legtöbb top 10-es slágerrel rendelkező előadó az USA-ban. elvisnek 35, a Beatles-nek 34, Michael Jacksonnak pedig 28 top 10-es helyezése volt a Billboard történelmében.

Lehet, hogy Madonna átkereszteli magát? Pop királynője helyett például a Zene királynője elnevezés sem csengene rosszul.

Madonna hits the #5 spot in a list of the 100 most successful recording artists of all time. The list, published by the Guinness British Hit Singles and Albums book, ranks artists according to how many weeks they have spent in the UK singles and albums charts. Madonna is also the only female act to make it into the top ten with a score of 1,653 weeks, right behind Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, The Beatles and Queen.

A co-worker of mine was going through some old records at a thrift store and found a 12" Maxi-Single of Burning Up with Physical Attraction and, of course, gave it to ME. I thought that the cover art was really cool.. The other cool thing about the front is that the word Madonna was actually hand written by Madonna herself. Hope you all enjoy!

Band Aid 20 "Do They Know It’s Christmas?" CD single goes on sale today, Monday 29 November, on UK. HMV is opening the doors of its flagship London store one hour earlier, at 8AM , to allow people to buy copies on Band Aid 20 "Do They Know It's Christmas?" on their way to work.

HMV’s Gennaro Castaldo said it could sell a million "if it captures the imagination like the original. In 1984, people bought multiple copies to give to family and friends as presents. If the same happens this year, sales could even exceed two million."

Band Aid 20 "Do They Know It’s Christmas?" CD will be released worldwide Nov. 30 (on Universal Int’l)... Band Aid Twenty Years After.

More than 13m see Band Aid debut video in United Kingdom. It was shown simultaneously on BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five. The figures do not include Sky One or the other digital channels which showed it.

Madonna’s introduction began: "Twenty years ago, I performed at Live Aid and the world watched. You saw me and my generation demanding a change.
"Once again, here we are 20 years later," she said, over images of starving African children. "More people die of hunger in Africa than war and Aids put together.
"In a world of plenty, it is hard to imagine that most African children will go to bed tonight hungry.
"Bob Geldof and his friends are here to remind you that we can never forget. Not ever. Feed the world. I am honoured to introduce Band Aid 20."

Why's It So Hard To Fight The Ignorance?

Italian-born singer-songwriter Fran Piro, 36, came to London in the mid-'80s and formed a punk band called Frozen Ghost. In the mid-'90s Fran formed another band, Zelig, which were being heralded by Kerrang! as the best unsigned band of the year. It was at this point that Piro was diagnosed HIV positive. But he didn't give up.

He's come througt fighting, with a collection of songs aimed at raising awereness around HIV and tackling some of the stigma surrounding the disease. The songs on "Hope Is Vital" sample the likes of Madonna and Sinead O'Connor, with Fran describing first-hand what is like to live through the fear of being  HIV positive and finding the hope to go on.

"Violent Silent" - a track that will be release on October 18, 2004 - samples Madonna's "Why Is It So Hard" from her "Erotica" album.

"I have a lawyer who has been communicating with Warner Brother, but being Madonna, this is a lengthy process and they have yet to get back to me with the go-ahead, so I’m going to release it anyway,” says Fran.

“If she sued me, an HIV positive person in a council flat who is giving the money to charity to raise awareness of people living with HIV and AIDS, well, then I’d be very disappointed.

“I just hope Madonna’s public image is coherent to her as a person. This isn’t a money making exercise, any proceeds from the track are going straight to charity. I don’t want to make money or sell loads of records. I’ve done it to raise people’s awareness of the situation and it’s too important a cause for me to stop, even if Warner do say no."

"Violent Silence" is a song that Fran wrote some time ago when he was really quite ill. It was born out of a frustration, of being stuck at home with only TV and newspapers as a source of contact and information.

"I realised the whole HIV situation had been lost, it’s disappeared from public attention and there was no way of mirroring such an experience in society. It’s easy to feel invisible and isolated and people don’t understand how that contributes to the illness."

He was drawn to the idea of using samples in music and realized that Madonna was someone who could certainly attract an audience. He felt that the somewhat downbeat tone of his verses could be contrasted with the positive message of the samples, which would inject some hope, not only for people living with HIV, but for anyone who currently finds themselves in a difficult situation.

With no record label behind him, Pirro is hoping that some of the music industry's more liberal luminaries will help him get his message across.

Will Madonna Seek $anctuary With a New Label?

The rumor of the week in the record business is too much fun to pass up, especially with Howard Stern making similar headlines.

I told you months ago that Stern was seen at Sirius Satellite Radio's Rockefeller Center studios. It was no surprise to this column that he finally announced a deal with them this week.

Now, Madonna may be setting up to be an entrepreneur again. At first, the Web site HitsDailyDouble.com suggested that Madonna and her manager Caresse Henry — whose other client is Jessica Simpson — would be heading to Sanctuary Management and Records. This would mean leaving behind Warner Music Group, the only home Madonna's ever had.

When I first mentioned this to one of Madonna's key former associates at WMG, he laughed, "Madonna going to Sanctuary? She's bigger than they are."

HitsDailyDouble retreated from its position a bit by saying that Henry might join Sanctuary Management, but Madonna would stay put at Warner. Hmmm....


If you don't know, Sanctuary is a management company and a record company run out of England, where the boutique upstart has about eight albums on the charts.

It also has a book-publishing arm and has gotten into merchandising for its clients, who include Destiny's Child and Beyoncé, Ray Davies of The Kinks, The Who, Mary J. Blige and, since Tuesday, rapper Nelly.

Andy Taylor and Rod Smallwood started the company in 1976. Among those in charge is Peter Asher, a longtime favorite in the business who managed and produced James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, and Linda Ronstadt at different times.

His sister, Jane Asher, was Paul McCartney's girlfriend in the ’60s, and Asher had a hit of his own in 1966 as Peter and Gordon with McCartney's "A World Without Love."

In just the last few days though, something is definitely different about Sanctuary. Is Madonna coming as an investor or an artist?

A key Sanctuarian was coy with me yesterday, but little changes may portend bigger ones.

For example, Sanctuary has suddenly a very clean and informative Web site that lays out its entire business, including its annual report. Is the company preparing for an upsurge of interest? Is it because of Madonna?

It's not such a far-fetched idea. Madonna has little reason to stay at Warner Music Group at this point.

She's sold her interest in Maverick Records to them, and her most recent album, "American Life," was a dud. Her catalog remains with Warner, but eventually she could bring it to a place like Sanctuary for re-issues with outtakes, B-sides and an eventual boxed set.

Sanctuary is essentially a British company, and one small enough that Madonna — an Anglophile — could have some control over as its franchise artist and investor.

What about Henry? Well, Sanctuary relies heavily on its management business, so Henry — who really only has two clients — would fit right in.

Madonna might also be able to bring her longtime flack Liz Rosenberg with her. Rosenberg, who is paid by Warner Music Group, essentially works just for Madonna when she's not helping out with Cher.

Neither Madonna or Cher is what you'd call an "active" Warner artist. Those would be Linkin Park and Green Day.

So hold on to your hats, folks, because if the Sanctuary/Madonna rumor is true, it will be a thunderbolt in a business that's foundering. The record industry needs new ideas badly, and no one has a flair for shaking things up like Madonna.

Today Financial Times Germany is reporting, that Warner is planning a going public next spring with a possible date in April with a volume of more than 3 millards US-Dollars. This step is planned to make the way free for new talks with EMI about a fusion after such an attempt was prevented already two times in the past 4 years.
