MADONNA wraps the most successful solo tour of all time
Category: Madonna live.
from MADONNA.COM LOS ANGELES – September 2, 2009 – Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” Tour made history as it wrapped up last night with two final shows in Tel Aviv, Israel at Yehoshua Gardens (HaYarkon Park, September 1 and 2). The Material Girl more than lives up to her name, as her tour becomes the most successful tour ever by a solo artist. After playing 85 shows since its launch in August 2008, Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” has drawn more than 3.5 million fans in 32 countries and has grossed $408 million, it was announced today by Live Nation, the tour’s global producer. “Sticky & Sweet” is also the second highest grossing tour of all time. Madonna set an attendance record for the biggest crowds in history in Zurich, Switzerland, where she drew the largest audience ever assembled for a show in that country (72,000). Her Gothenburg, Sweden show, seen by 119,000 fans, broke the record for highest grossing multiple shows in the country’s history. In Helsinki, Finland, “Sticky & Sweet” sold more than 85,000 tickets, making it the biggest single show by an artist in history for all of Scandinavia. Other highlights on the tour included stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina (256,000), Santiago, Chile (146,000), Sao Paulo, Brazil (203,000), Tallinn, Estonia (72,000), Warsaw, Poland (79,000), Bucharest, Romania (69,000), and Sofia, Bulgaria (54,000). “With ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Madonna has proven yet again that there is virtually no limit to what she can accomplish both creatively and commercially,” said Arthur Fogel, Live Nation’s Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring. “Sticky & Sweet” broke Madonna’s previous record of most successful tour by a solo artist with her 2006 Confessions Tour, which grossed $194 million. Madonna’s upcoming CD, “CELEBRATION” – the definitive Madonna collection – is scheduled to be released at the end of September.

Madonna speaked out against discrimination in Bucharest. And she was booed!
Category: Madonna live.
Thousands of fans in Bucharest react after Madonna speaked out at concert against discrimination of people traditionally known as Gypsies.
At first, fans politely applauded the Roma performers sharing a stage with Madonna. Then the pop star condemned widespread discrimination against Roma, or Gypsies, and the cheers gave way to jeers.
The sharp mood-change that swept the crowd of 60,000, who had packed a park for Wednesday night's concert, underscores how prejudice against Roma remains deeply entrenched across Eastern Europe.
“It has been brought to my attention ... that there is a lot of discrimination against Romanies and Gypsies in general in Eastern Europe,” Madonna said. “It made me feel very sad.”
Thousands booed and jeered her.
A few cheered when she added: “We don't believe in discrimination ... we believe in freedom and equal rights for everyone.”
But she got more boos when she mentioned discrimination against homosexuals and others.

Hungarian fans worried. Sign a petition for the show in Budapest!
Category: Madonna live.
Madonna's Hungarian fans are really worried for what happened to the location of the Sticky & Sweet tour in Budapest, Hungary.
They started a petition http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/madonnahungary. Sign it and spread the word!
Here is a message from Karol:
"Are you going to see Madonna in Hungary? Do you have tickets and reservation? Have you already booked the flight?
We have no venue. We have no information. Are you worried? We think you are!
Let music make the people come together! Let’s take a stand! We have to do something - they can’t do that with us!"
What will happen to Madonna show in Budapest?
Category: Madonna live.
After location change from the Kincsem park, Madonna's concert won't be held at the Puskas Ferenc Stadium either.
Hungarian Football Association is complaining that many people attending the show would destroy the grass at the venue. Live Nation started negotiation with them, as the football game planned for August 22nd was cancelled.
Today it was officially confirmed that the concert won't be held at the Stadium.
What is going to happen to Madonna concert in Budapest?

Video footage and press from Oslo. A success for Madonna!
Category: Madonna live.
Click here and here to watch great footage from tonight show in Oslo. Obviously, the concert started when the darkness wasn't came yet. How funny Madonna's expression when she entered the stage with Candy Shop.
"The critics where pretty good," says our community member brilleland2. "There was only one thing Madonna could not control and that was the sun. Here in Norway the sun goes down very late and the venue must be closed at 23:00."
Drowned Madonna loves Scandinavia!
Update from Oslo: Madonna didn't perform Revolver on stage tonight.
Category: Madonna live.
Update on Revolver from Oslo:
"I was at the show in Oslo," says our community member Ronnbre77. "While we were queing outside, we heard her singing snippets (very little) of Revolver, and thought this maybe would be added to the setlist tonight - well, it wasn't...
"So she must have "rehearsed" (it was perhaps 30 secs of music/singing) for some other reason."
"We went extatic anyways...... The show was amazing, and she was in a great mood!"
"She sang a LOT during sound checks: Candy Shop, Human Nature, Into The Groove, Holiday, She's Not Me, Spanish Lesson, Miles Away, You Must Love Me, Ray of Light.... and Revolver. Not full songs though."
Always check out www.madonnafanzine.com. You never know what you miss!
Latest news from Oslo: Madonna rehearsed Revolver!
Category: Madonna live.
According to our friend Matt at Boy Culture:
Madonna just "rehearsed parts of 'Revolver'" ahead of her Oslo Sticky & Sweet performance. Wild guess: Perhaps this is the surprise she's promised the Norwegians?
Scandinavia ready for Madonna!!!
Category: Madonna live.
Here is a huge bulk of information from some of the biggest papers in Scandinavia. Norway is a goldmine when it comes to details about the tour and things around it.
Madonna in Norway, Sweden and Denmark
Madonna is going to play in Oslo on Tuesday and Thursday, and is expected to fly in from London on Tuesday afternoon with a private Jet-plane.
She was supposed to stay in Oslo for five days, but canceled her reservations at Grand Hotel last week, and will fly back to London after the show, and return on Thursday. Source: http://www.vg.no/rampelys/artikkel.php?artid=564323.
50 people from Oslo started the hard work on building Madonna's gigantic stage last Thursday evening when 15 trailers arrived with the stage.
Over the weekend an additional 36 trailers arrived with sound and lightning. According to VG, only Rollng Stones, U2 and Pink Floyd has brought such huge productions to Norway before Madonna.
130 Norwegians are working on building the stage on Monday and Tuesday. The stage is 65 meters wide, and has a weight of about 400 tons!
25 of the 350 people in Madonna's entourage are stage builders.
Verdens Gang also tells about the tragic accident in France, where two men died after Madonna's stage collapsed. "The death stage was going to Oslo after Marsielle!" http://www.vg.no/musikk/artikkel.php?artid=564039.
Unfortunately, they read too much crap fron Swedish tabloids. Aftonbladet in Sweden has published new pictures of Madonna's frightening arms! They talk about anirexia nervosa, and as always, a doctor has spoken after ´looking at the picture, saying Madonna could suffer from Anorexia, an infection, poison struma (Hyperthyroidism) or cancer!
Anyway, Verdens Gang has all about it in today's net edition. http://www.vg.no/musikk/artikkel.php?artid=564863
About 80.000 people will attend at Madonna's two concerts in Oslo, the first ones for her in Norway.
And those of you who don't want to see Madonna tonight, you can also choose between Lady Gaga and Metallica. Tonight, Oslo is the city of stars... Source: http://www.vg.no/musikk/artikkel.php?artid=564467
Fans in Denmark can fight over 1000 extra tickets! The arranger of the concert has recieved all details about the stage, and come to the conclusion that 1000 more people can come to the show. All standing room only. The tickets were made available at 11.00 tuesday, and are most probably gone by now.
Source: http://www.billetlugen.dk/musik/7335/
And what about Sweden? Well, if you live in Stockholm, you can catch a special Madonna train! Old t-shirts, party and lots of Madonna music is promised.
Trains are scheduled for both the 8th and 9th of August. See link for details http://www.sjevent.se/.
After the accident in Marsielle, some people were worried about the effect it might have in Gothenburg, but the concerts will go on as promised.
The gruond under Ullevi stadium will be reinfirced with steel pellars, as Madonna's stage is quite heavy. Ullevi's staff takes safety very seriously after the near collapse in 1985, when Bruce Springsteen and a very enthusiastic crowd almost rocked the stadium to pieces over two nights.
Furthermore, Swedish papers reports about the video for Celebration, which will be directed by long time collaborator Jonas Åkerlund. They also mention the Greatest Hits collection due for release in late September.
More to come over the following couple of weeks...

Madonna just rehearsed in front of the first people who entered the Friuli Stadium.
She was very funny. Madonna asked them what songs they wanted her to sing. The audience suggested a lot of songs, and then Madonna performed Frozen and Ray of Light. During Ray of Light, she put the microphone among her legs and so she makes the audience sing.
Madonna asked the audience to be so hot also tonight during the actual concert. She also requested them to be naked, without their shirts on.
