Lego, the Danish plastic toy firm is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the minifigure.

It has launched a website with videos and photos and is encouraging enthusiasts to enter a movie making contest to show their own interpretation of the minifigures' adventures.

The minifigure started off in 1978 as a largely featureless yellow figure but has since evolved to include realistic characteristics including skin colour and facial hair.

The plastics toy firm has also produced 'famous' minifigure versions of characters from the big screen such as Spiderman, Darth Vader and Indiana Jones.

Last month Lego announced that its half year profits have more than doubled, partly due to the success of its classic and movie/celebrity contracts.

Music label, Sony Ericsson put 'Candy' in phones

Warner Music Intl. has inked a deal with cell phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson to include content from Madonna's album "Hard Candy" as an incentive for consumers in 27 countries to buy certain models of phones beginning this month.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Handsets preloaded with the album are being sold in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.

A download voucher for "Hard Candy" is available in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden, while customers in Belgium and the Czech Republic will get the "Hard Candy" CD when they buy a phone.

Phones will also sport extra "Hard Candy" content, such as wallpapers and ringtones.

John Reid, WMI vice chairman and prexy of Warner Music Europe, said: "The evolution of mobile handsets along with technological convergence continues to open up new ways for us to distribute and market our artists' music. Packaging music from a global megastar with new Sony Ericsson phones will help drive sales of music-enabled devices and contribute to the uptake of mobile music."

[BREAKING NEWS] Live Nation to buy Signatures Network, according to The NY Post.

A New York Post EXCLUSIVE:

Fresh from stealing Madonna from Warner Music Group, concert promoter Live Nation is in advanced talks to acquire the Material Girl’s merchandising company, Signatures Network, The Post has learned.

A deal for Signatures Network, which holds the rights to license and market more than 125 artists including U2, Kanye West and Bruce Springsteen, is expected to be announced in the next two weeks, according to four sources close to the situation.

Live Nation is paying around $50 million for Signatures Network, these sources said, with one of them adding that the merchandising company generates about $120 million in annual revenue but operates with very small profit margins.

A spokesman for Live Nation declined to comment. Signatures Network CEO Dell Furano did not return a call for comment.

Live Nation has been quietly gobbling up ancillary businesses related to the concert industry as a way to extend its reach and diversify its revenue stream.

Earlier this year the company acquired the remaining stake in high-end concert T-shirt merchandiser Trunk it didn’t already own.

Last month it acquired the 50 percent portion of UltraStar it did not own. UltraStar runs the official artist Web sites for Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Police and others.

Live Nation also recently bought fan club ticketing service Musictoday and merchandising company Ant Hill Trading.

Signatures Network is bigger than all of those assets combined, however, with sources saying that the $50 million Live Nation is shelling out for the company is twice what it paid for the others.

Though it has focused solely on tour merchandising in the past, sources said Signatures Network was now looking to strike all-encompassing rights deals that would also include things like fragrances and accessories in addition to tour-related merchandise.

Madonna's father, Tony Ciccone, has devel- oped five kinds of Madonna wines — Pinot Noir, Gewurz- traminer, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Grigio Am- brato, and Chard- onnay.

BAY CITY (AP) — Madonna is most notably recognized through a pair of headphones.

But now the Bay City native also can be identified through a wine glass.

The Material Girl's father, Tony Ciccone, recently decided to advance his winery business by releasing Madonna Wine, which is available in five varieties: Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.

"Most of our wines are state-bottled wines,” Ciccone said. "We don't try to make California wines or wines from France. We make wines that are Michigan wines.”

Ciccone, who has been bottling wine out of his Ciccone Vineyard & Winery in Suttons Bay for nine years, is a regular visitor to Bay City. And when he's not seeing friends and family, he ventures over to the Water Front Market to visit owner Greg Schultz.

Ciccone has been delivering wine to Schultz's business for three years. On a recent visit he dropped off a few bottles of Madonna Wine, which Schultz showcased on the front counter.

"Sales have been pretty good, considering it's a $40 bottle of wine,” Schultz said.

Many local residents recognize Ciccone not as "the father of Madonna” but as "Tony The Wine Distributor.” But some customers aren't buying the wine for its taste; they're purchasing complete sets to keep as collector's items.

"We've had a lot of girls who buy it as a gift for their friends,” Schultz said. "It's good for true Madonna fans.”

When Marilyn Wines were released a while back, fans of Marilyn Monroe saved the bottles, and it's paying off for them today, he said.

Madonna Wine was released in December 2006, Ciccone said, and its popularity has increased ever since. The label on each bottle features a colorful picture of Madonna, with whom he consulted beforehand to make sure his daughter approved of the idea.

"She was excited about it,” Ciccone said.

Ciccone said he plans to increase production at his Suttons Bay vineyard, which employs five people in Lower Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula.

But sales aside, Ciccone said he is just happy to be doing what he loves, and making money at the same time.

"I should've done this 20 years ago,” he said. "For us, it's a labor of love.”
