The singer Madonna is receiving a helping hand from ex-husband Guy Ritchie in casting an odd-sounding film about Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson. Ritchie looked over the screenplay for the movie - called W.E. - and suggested his former wife seek meetings with several well-respected actors such as Mark Strong and Toby Kebbell, who both had major roles in Ritchie's last film, RocknRolla. Madonna has written the movie with Alek Keshishian, who directed the egomaniacal performer in the documentary Madonna: Truth Or Dare in 1991 when she was, it must be said, pretty mega. Madonna will also direct the movie. A couple of agents who represent distinguished thespians sought reassurances that Madonna was not going to act in the picture as well. 'She would have said if she was to be in it. It's a game-changer. Some find it difficult to act opposite her. Ask Rupert Everett,' a denizen of Soho told me yesterday. W.E. is described as a romantic comedy about a woman called Wally Winthrop. The synopsis of W.E. states that Wally was 'named for her grandmother's passion' and there are fantasy and flashback scenes involving Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson who, after the Abdication, were styled the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. There's a lot of dialogue between the Duke and Duchess, but my guess is that the screenplay will be re-written before shooting commences next year. I'm presuming W.E. stands for Wallis and Edward. Other segments of the film have Wally Winthrop marrying a paediatrician. She then attends an event featuring items that belonged to the Duchess of Windsor where she finds herself falling for a security guard. Madonna has several meetings planned this week and next with various actors and actresses. She needs to cast a star name to help boost the budget. In this climate, Madonna's name alone won't guarantee a picture will be financed. A suggestion that David Tennant would be in W.E. was met with the acronym C.R.A.P. (for complete rubbish and p***)
Madonna’s Adoption Appeal Not Yet Approved By Malawi Court, according to Access Hollywood.

Madonna’s adoption lawyer in Malawi, Alan Chinula, tells Access Hollywood that online rumors of Malawi’s high court changing their tune and allowing Madonna to adopt a young girl named Mercy are, “not true at all.”

Chinula said that the judges in Malawi are not happy about this report out there on the Web. Specifically he said that, “The Chief Justice is not very amused,” and that, “We’re very unhappy about it.”
Chinula’s colleagues are having a meeting with the Chief Justice later today to explain that it is a misunderstanding and nothing more than a rumor circulating in the press.

Chinula also says they are anxiously waiting for the courts to deliver the judgment, and that it could be any day. He told Access he checks in with the court clerk every day to find out if they have made a decision on the adoption.

He added that he has not spoken to Madonna about this latest report yet.

Chinula is very dismayed at this false report. He goes on to say that his staff are professionals and that they would never tell the press something like this before a decision had come down.

Chinula also handled Madonna’s first adoption with David Banda, now 3.

According to Britain's tabloid The Sun, MADONNA has persuaded three appeal judges to allow her to adopt Malawian orphan MERCY JAMES. According to The Sun two have already submitted reports recommending it go ahead and the third is said to be "in complete unison with them".

The Sun reports that Madonna has been told the news by her lawyer Alan Chinula. The tabloid says that the ruling is set to be announced next Sunday at Malawi's Supreme Court of Appeal.

A source there said yesterday: "The paperwork is being typed up now.

"All recommendations are in favour of the adoption taking place. Mercy should start packing her bags. She's off to America."

A close friend of Madonna said: "She's ecstatic.

"She made a promise that she wouldn't give up on Mercy and, believe me, she could move mountains when she's this determined."

Madonna's adoption application was originally rejected because she had not lived in the east African state for 18 months, as required.

But one of the three appeal judges has said that rule was out of date.

The pal added: "No stone has been left unturned to prove that ruling was wrong."

Now, according to a source of Britain's Daily Mail, she is said to be considering adopting another baby, even from another African country. The source explained "She (Madonna) has said she won't give up on Mercy but if she's blocked from adopting her legally then she will think about trying to adopt another baby. She has already started looking into other African countries. If a miracle happens and she gets to adopt Mercy, I see no reason why she wouldn't go ahead and adopt another child from a different African country as well. She has done some research on Lesotho and because it's a place that is ravaged by AIDS and has a high number of orphans, it could be the perfect second choice."

According to the Daily Mail, it's rumored that Madonna has already spoken also to officials at a Nigerian orphanage about adopting a child. Gossip says that she wants to involve Jesus Luz, claiming he would be the child's father figure. A source said: "Madonna thinks her attempt to adopt Mercy failed because her relationship with Jesus made her look like she was going through some midlife crisis. She's determined not to make the same mistakes and wants Jesus involved from the off. She's considering visiting an orphanage in Nigeria, perhaps with Jesus, as soon as possible."

The "RocknRolla" director will reportedly walk away with assets totaling around $60 million, including a 1,200-acre country estate, a London pub, and a cash settlement. Madonna will hold on to her New York and Los Angeles homes and most of her considerable fortune, The Sun reported. "The negotiations were relatively painless," The Sun quoted a source as saying. "Guy knew what he wanted and Madonna knew what she was keen to keep. THE stress of the past month is taking its toll on MADONNA.

The Queen Of Pop has sacked two dancers and her tour manager is threatening to walk out over her spectacular moods.

Doctors discovered Madge is anaemic, a surefire sign she is overdoing it, and she also suffered a painful knee injury.

Madge has had a doctor, physiotherapist and a chiropractor on duty during rehearsals for her forthcoming Sticky & Sweet world tour.

Crisis

This week medical experts ordered her to take her foot off the pedal on the punishing dance routines because her body simply cannot cope.

She is now taking time out and resting in New York state’s Hamptons resort with close pal GWYNETH PALTROW.

Madge’s meltdown follows some testing times in her personal life.

She has faced claims of a crisis in her marriage to GUY RITCHIE and allegations that she is a home-wrecker over her relationship with baseball star ALEX ‘A-ROD’ RODRIGUEZ.

And a book penned by her brother Christopher Ciccone has lifted the lid on family secrets and tensions. The strain has pushed her famous mood swings to terrifying new extremes.

A source in her camp said: “Madonna is doing less than OK. She has been rehearsing for the tour and she is totally miserable.

“She’s down physically and mentally. The situation with Guy is very, very tense. The way the press are going crazy with the A-Rod story, her brother’s book and her physical exhaustion are all taking their toll.

“Family tension with her father and two of her other siblings has also been awkward.

July 8, 2008 -- Sexy singing siren Madonna stole A-Rod's heart, fueling the obsessive infatuation that helped doom his marriage, a lawyer for his wife said yesterday upon filing divorce papers.

The married Madonna - famous for a long list of lovers in her wild, younger years - captivated the Yankee star to the point that their "relationship" was "the last straw" for his long-suffering wife, Cynthia, said C-Rod's lawyer, Earle Lilly.

Cynthia Rodriguez filed for divorce on the grounds that "the marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct," the lawsuit states.

That "misconduct" presumably includes Alex Rodriguez's relationship with Madge, which his wife says involves the Jewish mystic philosophy kabbalism - and the pop star playing the role of teacher to A-Rod, her doe-eyed, "brainwashed" student.

Lilly told People.com that that oddball matchup between the singer and slugger "is an affair of the heart."

He insisted his side isn't claiming that Madonna and A-Rod have had a sexual fling.

"The correct analysis is a 'relationship,' " Lilly said. "Some people categorize an affair as something as sexual infidelity. We're not claiming that."

A-Rod's obsession with all things Madonna includes listening only to her music while driving, dumping his longtime sports agent for her manager - a kabbalah practitioner - and the three of them enjoying private Friday-night Sabbath dinners together, sources have said.

All of these things were the final insult for his wife, who has suffered through a string of extramarital affairs by her All-Star hubby during their 5½ years of marriage, Lilly said.

"She's just a Greek Orthodox lady who has had as much as she can take," Lilly said.

Cynthia's lawsuit demands she get the couple's $12 million mansion in Coral Gables, Fla., as well as its contents, plus alimony, custody of their two young daughters, child support, her Maybach luxury car and lawyers' fees.

The suit, filed in Miami-Dade County court, suggests that C-Rod also should land up to half of the more than $140 million Alex has earned during their six-year marriage.

"The petitioner has exhausted every effort to salvage the marriage," the suit said. "However, Alex has emotionally abandoned his wife and children and has left her with no choice but to divorce him."

Cynthia, 35, revealed in the divorce complaint that she and Alex signed a prenuptial agreement on Oct. 3, 2002, a month before their marriage.

But the suit suggests that Cynthia wants that prenup tossed.

Philadelphia divorce lawyer Lynne Gold-Bikin, who is not involved in the case, said it is significant that Cynthia filed for divorce in Florida, because that state's judges are more apt to toss out prenuptial agreements than those elsewhere. A prenup can be ruled invalid in Florida if a judge decides its terms are not "fair or reasonable," she said.

The couple has two daughters, 3-year-old Natasha and 2-month-old Ella.

Last night, A-Rod seemed to be reveling in his impending bachelorhood as he held court with two male pals at the Four Seasons Hotel in Midtown. A steady stream of beautiful young women approached the table to wish him well.

"He was very friendly. It's like he didn't have a care in the world," said Wendy Diamond, a judge on the upcoming CBS-TV show "Greatest American Dog" who witnessed the exchanges.

One spy said the athlete and his pals sipped tea and discussed women and possible new residences for him.

His lawyer, Ira Elegant, did not return a phone call.

Elegant told the Miami Herald that he plans to file a counter-petition after he returns from a trip to Turkey next week.

Madonna, 49, had no comment as she walked out of her Central Park West building, where actress Gwyneth Paltrow paid a visit during the day.

She has said she did not have a romance with 32-year-old slugger.

Madonna is not mentioned by name in C-Rod's suit.

Also left unnamed were any other women with whom A-Rod had a relationship - including busty blond stripper Joslyn Morse, who last year was sharing hotel rooms around North America with the Yankee third basemen.

TMZ.com reported Madonna and her hubby, director Guy Ritchie, have been planning the media frenzy surrounding her purported affair with A-Rod for months in a bid to raise her profile and sell more tickets for her upcoming "Sticky and Sweet" world tour.

Those sources also said that Madonna's marriage is for all intents over and that the couple has agreed to an "official split" in November of December, after her big-bucks concert tour.
