I was totally honored to be invited by Gallery of the Absurd and Pretty on the Outside to be a part of their latest collaborative frankendoodle. Technically known as Exquisite Corpse (also known as "exquisite cadaver" or "Cher" or "Joan Collins") is a method by which a collection of words or images are collectively assembled, the result being known as the exquisite corpse or cadavre exquis in French.

Since I was the newbie, they let me pick the subject and I chose Madonna since I had yet to doodle her (Hillary doesn’t count). The fun part is that none of us get to see what the other has done (except for a tiny sliver) while the creation process is underway. 14 from GOTA did Madge’s head (love the extra thick linebacker neck), then passed on a tiny sliver of the bottom to me so I could do the torso (I couldn’t resist doodling her sinewy, ropey yoga arms, gnarled witch fingers, and referencing her new single). Then I sent Gilmore from POTO a tiny sliver of the bottom of my doodle so he could do her legs and thrusting pelvis of steel. Each of our finished parts were then sent back to 14 for assembly and this is the result.

14 and Gilmore made their sections basically attractive and I had to focus on the grotesque, thus insuring that Madonna will never be my friend. At least I made the baby look cute, right? That was fun. Let’s do another one!

"I’ve been talking to some of my sources and heard there’s a gigantic new ’baby’," Anna Henstridge says. "Madonna and Klein are working on which may include a whole new EXHIBITION!!!"

"And this is in edition to the film production they are working on, and we read of some time ago. The photo session will have the X-STaTIC PRO=CeSS feel to it and set to gain at least the same global success as 'PRO=CeSS'," adds Anna.

This one night in Toronto will feature all Madonna music and video all night long which the promoters have all been given permission to use Madonna’s music, video and imagery for the Tour.

Over the top Drag shows will be performed by Donnarama and Isabella London that are sure to have people believing that her majesty is performing right before them.

There will be a $300 cash prize awarded to the best dressed Madonna Look-A-Like also.

''Knowing What to Expect'' moved to Phoenix.

You probably remember Sean Cannon's Madonna piece "Knowing What to Expect" which was acquired by a brand new bank in Tucson. It has now been moved from that bank to Phoenix, AZ and has been aquired by a very trendy night spot called "Amsterdam?". It has five bars in large setting--and one of the rooms is called Miami, where the painting is shown.

"Unless the piece is bought, I think it shall then move on to San Diego, CA," Sean tells Drowned Madonna. "Anyhow, I feel very priviledged to be shown at this fabulous club! Madonna’s new album is all about dancing and going out and having fun, and well, metaphorically, she’ll be hanging above a lot of dancers to her new sound!"

"The painting was very well recieved and I was quite taken back at peoples’ responses to it. The club owner put a special light onto it and honestly, it looked like an opal stone as every color from the light with all the colors on the painting, all morphed together. It was as if the painting was electric," adds Sean.

Art sale opens old wounds for a material girl

THE sinewy, contorted image of Madonna, naked and squatting over a grave, caused outrage when it was unveiled, not least to the singer herself.

But if the star believed she and the world had seen the last of Peter Howson's deeply unflattering portraits, she was wrong.

Just three years after Howson's Madonna paintings were exhibited in Ayr - and shortly afterwards snapped up by collectors - two of them are coming up for sale in a very public auction at Sotheby's.

Such is the notoriety of the paintings, the auction at Gleneagles next month is expected to attract interest from a horde of international collectors who are expected to bid at least £30,000 for the pair.

Madonna was once among the celebrity collectors of Howson's works, but made no secret of her dislike for his paintings of her, and condemned him as a voyeur and self-publicist.

The first painting, an oil, titled Portrait of Madonna 2002, shows the pop star standing against a red background with a transparent top revealing her breasts against a muscular, sinewy torso. It is expected to achieve more than £30,000.

The second painting, a watercolour based on Howson's infamous portrait, Death and Madonna, shows the singer squatting naked in a graveyard. Sotheby's expects it to fetch around £10,000.

Last night Howson, who said he produced the paintings from "memory and imagination", admitted his once close friendship with the singer was unlikely to be rekindled because of the sale.

Asked if he thought the upcoming sale will reopen old wounds, Howson replied: "Maybe." He added: "I haven't heard a thing from Madonna since I held the exhibition in Ayr. I don't know whether she is not interested in me any more or she's fallen out with me or whatever.

"There are other people that are interested in my work now so I have forgotten about Madonna. But maybe she will buy one. She bought a picture of a boxer for Sean Penn but she lost that when they were divorced. But since then she has bought a number of my paintings.

"Madonna is a fascinating woman. I originally painted her because she collected my art. I remember she was quite difficult to paint as conventionally beautiful people are more difficult than ugly people."

Scotland On Sunday art critic Iain Gale said the arrival of the paintings in the public arena could rekindle the controversy.

He said: "It is by one of Scotland's leading artists of one of the biggest iconic celebrities of the day, and it's sexy. How much better does it get? It contains the three big things today that make contemporary art sell.

"It could be very controversial and reignite the old controversy. But how much have we moved on since then? Madonna has moved on; she is now Mrs Respectable. Another question is do these works fit in with her new image and how intrusive are they? One thing is for sure, they will sell very well."

The pictures are being sold by two anonymous collectors in the UK.

It is not known what they paid for the images but if they achieve what is expected it is understood the sellers will make a substantial profit.

André Zlattinger, Sotheby's head of Scottish paintings, said: "Last year we had a huge interest internationally for Howson, particularly from America. Howson's work was doing very well in the eighties and then there was a lull for a while in the nineties, but in the last couple of years there has been great interest in his work."

The sale at Gleneagles takes place from August 29 to 31.

Madonna is to lend two of her most cherished works of art to Tate Modern for an exhibition, it was revealed today.

In June the Tate will hold the first ever British exhibition dedicated to Frida Kahlo. The eccentrically moustached Mexican painter was the subject of an Oscarwinning film Frida in 2002, starring Salma Hayek. The Tate Modern exhibition will star more than 70 of her 144 paintings - including Madonna's canvasses Self-Portrait with Monkey and My Birth. Madonna's art curator, Darlene K Lutz, has said of the self-portrait: "The Kahlo painting is so powerful and enigmatic that we hope people will get beyond its personal history, as Madonna has, and see the artistic genius ... it is the number one love of her collection." Surrealist innovator Kahlo began painting in her teens as she convalesced after a road accident. Her work is rich in Mexican and Aztec imagery but is also autobiographical. The artist, who died in 1954, was married to fiery Mexican painter Diego Rivera, had an affair with Leon Trotsky and counted André Breton, Paulette Goddard and Sergei Eisenstein as close friends. Other landmark paintings in the show are The Little Deer, in which Kahlo paints herself as a wounded, hunted animal and The Two Fridas, one of her largest and most ambitious pieces. Self-Portrait with Monkey is one of the most cherished pieces in Madonna's art collection and has pride of place in her London home. The singer receives up to 10 requests a year to lend her works - which include paintings by Picasso, Léger, Salvador Dali and Man Ray. She presented Martin Creed with the Turner Prize in 2001 for his light bulb that switched itself on and off again.
