Madonna face of Dolce And Gabbana
Category: Fashion.
Press Associated Madonna will be swapping music for modelling once again, as she becomes the latest cover girl for Dolce And Gabbana. The Italian fashion duo - who designed iconic costumes for her Girlie Show and Sticky And Sweet tours in 1993 and 2008 - announced on their online magazine, Swide.com, that the Queen of Pop is the face of their spring/summer 2010 campaign. "To have Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true," said designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
Madonna teams with Ed Hardy and Von Dutch designer.
Category: Fashion.
Madonna's new clothing collection is for "seven-year-olds to 77-year-olds".
The 50-year-old popstar is teaming up with French fashion designer Christian Audigier - who has an eponymous label and is also behind the Von Dutch and Ed Hardy labels - on a new range, and is determined to make it suitable for all age groups.
Christian told BANG Showbiz: "Madonna and I are working on a new project called The Material Girl Project and I'm going to be a partner with her on it.
"It's going to come out, in September, when it's back to school time. So we are working on different designs and samples right now, so we're going to have most of that done at the end of the summer.
"It's going to be for everyone, all ages. We're going for everyone, from seven-year-olds to 77-year-olds. We're not excluding anybody."
Christian - who is currently in London to launch his new range of champagne and wines - has been thrilled with the way the '4 Minutes' singer has thrown herself into the collaboration, claiming she is full of ideas and has a clear vision for the line.
He explained: "Madonna is a good choice because she comes into it a total pro. If I need to listen to music, then I go and see Madonna because she is the best, so this is the same thing.
"Does she have loads of ideas? Oh, of course. I had a meeting a month ago with her and she is really all about the detail. She knows exactly what she likes and is always proposing ideas to us. After that she decides whether she wants to add shoes or other things. She's like me, when it's a, 'Yes,' it's a big, 'Yes.' When it's a, 'No,' it's a definite, 'No!' I like people like that, a lot of people are really critical but never give a solution. She is not like that."

Pharrell and his Hermes bag: A love story!
Category: Fashion.
You may recognize Pharrell’s purple Hermes tote ("Don’t call it a murse... it’s my travel bag," he told writer Erica Kennedy), which he proudly posed with on the cover of our June/July music issue. Turns out, Pharrell really, really likes his travel bag (Well, wouldn’t you? He told Erica it cost as much as a high-end Mercedes). Aside from our cover, he’s been snapped toting the bag all around town (check out the images below) and appears with it in Madonna’s new music video for "Give It to Me." Apparently, her Madgesty specifically requested he bring it to the shoot. We can only presume after seeing it on our cover...?

Arianne does it again for Madge new album
Category: Fashion.
an article published on SantacruzSentinel.com
When Arianne Phillips set out to create the costumes for the James Mangold remake of the classic western "3:10 to Yuma," her biggest challenge was making the clothes seem like they'd already had the life wrung out of them.
Weeks of research went into the costume designs for the 25 main characters and 1,000 extras. "I didn't want to take the audience out of the story," Phillips said. "I wanted to avoid cliches and try to create a gritty reality" — a tall order considering how much Westerns are a part of the American consciousness, she said.
Tossed into the difficulty of the assignment was the fact that filming for the movie took place during the worst winter in New Mexico in 70 years, according to Phillips. She spent part of her time just trying to keep the actors reasonably warm as temperatures dipped to 10 and 12 degrees.
Since filming, Phillips has been busy supervising photo shoots for fashion magazines and looking at other film projects. She'll also be working on Madonna's next album. She has worked with Madonna for years. Phillips is proud of this movie, which has gotten glowing reviews from heavyweights like the Hollywood Reporter and Variety.
"This is a stellar, stellar piece," she said. "I'm very proud to be associated with this movie.
"For a designer, it was an incredible project"
Madonna Gets A Start On Fall Fashion
Category: Fashion.

Madonna supports the new Prada bag (WENN)
LONDON, England (July 16, 2007) -- The Material Girl proves she still has what it takes to be the ultimate trend-setter!
Getting a head start on Fall Fashion, Madge was photographed looking fabulously posh while carrying Prada's new bag.
The glossy grey and silver faded patent leather bag is from the upcoming Fall/Winter 2007 collection. The bag has short double handles offset by iron platens and is characterized by the use of umbrella stitching and unique metal lettering logo.
Madonna, looking classic in all black, paired the designer leather tote with an equally chic black leather jacket, black wide-legged pants, and large shades.
Though Lady M opted for the grey and silver choice, you can also accessorize with a nude and black color version as well for just under $3000.

H&M Profit Rises 31 Percent in 2nd Quarter
Category: Fashion.
Hennes & Mauritz, Europe's second-largest clothing retailer, said Wednesday that its profit rose 31 percent in the second quarter as the company opened new stores and the Madonna-branded collection was well-received by customers.
The company also announced a collaboration with Italian designer Roberto Cavalli.
Net income for the three months through May 31 rose to 3.47 billion Swedish kronor ($503 million) from 2.65 billion kronor a year earlier, H&M said. Sales gained 18 percent to 20.05 billion kronor ($2.91 billion).
"The spring collections have been well-received by the customers during the whole first half-year," the company said.
H&M shares dipped 1.54 percent to 416 kronor ($60.32) Wednesday in Stockholm, however.
Hennes & Mauritz has been opening new stores -- bringing the total to 1,420 -- at the same time it has been expanding its shoes business. The company also introduced a range of clothes branded with pop singer Madonna's name.
"The expansion of online and catalog sales in the Netherlands and of shoes has surpassed expectations," the company said.
H&M noted a number of stores opened in new markets, including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Slovakia, Greece and Qatar.
The company said the Cavalli collection of menswear and womenswear will be available in about 200 of H&M's stores starting Nov. 8.
For the first six months of the year, net income rose to 5.1 billion Swedish kronor ($740 million), from 3.92 billion kronor in the same period a year earlier, the company said. Sales gained 15 percent to 36.8 billion kronor ($5.34 billion).

" It's all in the material, girl
Ah, Madonna, you paragon of taste - where are you when we need you?
We hear you're flouncing around all over Europe, bounding from boutique to boutique, while here at home our own apparel industry is sweating (yes, unladylike sweating) just to make a buck.
But on the sophisticated Continent, for some reason your M for Madonna line is a runaway hit - or should we say a runway hit, since we hear you've even broken through in fashion-fanatic la France and ultra-snobby Milan.
Bottom line. At one of Europe's largest fashion retailers, Hennes & Mauritz, they're giving you full credit for a dramatic 17 percent jump in April sales on top of March's 30 percent leap. Who could have figured that a jumpsuit with zippers could've triggered that sort of reaction? And we hear 60,000 employees of those stores, which operate as H&M, are busily selling that and your other wares in their stores everywhere from Hong Kong to our own Fifth Avenue.
One other thing, Material Girl: We hope you bought some stock. The shares (traded over the counter here as HMRZF) have doubled in the past year to more than $60.
Not bad numbers for what is supposed to be a rather undistinguished year in the rag trade.
