Paul Oakenfold talks about Celebration and being in the recording studio with Madonna.
Category: Interviews & Statements.
From the Music Mix Blog at EW.com:
British DJ and remixer extraordinaire Paul Oakenfold would like to clear something up: He has never been naked in a recording studio with Madonna. “That was a joke,” he laughs, referring to Madonna’s April 23rd tweet via manager Guy Oseary’s account (@guyoseary): “paul oakenfold is running around the studio naked.. because i wont put the air on.. its hot in here.. but the music is hotter!!!! -M.”
But Oakenfold, who recently released Perfecto: Vegas, a two-disc set celebrating his popular residency at the Palms Casino, from which he recently took a break to join Her Madgesty’s Sticky and Sweet Tour in Europe, is dead serious about getting people on the dance floor with “Celebration.” The song, which he co-wrote with Madonna for her upcoming greatest hits package (in stores Sept. 29), is he says, “meant to be positive in the respect that you can do it, let’s have a good time, let’s enjoy ourselves.”
And while the song, which leaked online in July, has a party-time feel, Oakenfold tells us that he and “M,” as he calls her, were all business during their first in-studio collaboration. “It was very focused, very professional,” he recalls. “When you step up to this level, it’s an interesting process because you’re on someone else’s time, and you respect that. And that’s really what it’s about. So I was extremely organized when I went in there with the team that I had.” And he’s pretty proud of the result: “It’s definitely the sound of tomorrow. Which always becomes the sound of today.”

James Morrison: 'I was snubbed by Madonna'.
Category: Interviews & Statements.
From The Mirror:
James Morrison has revealed that he was once snubbed by Madonna.
Talking to Fern Britton and Phillip Schofield on This Morning earlier today, the 24-year-old star said he wasn’t that bothered as he wasn’t much of a Madge fan anyway.
He explained: "I've never been a massive fan of Madonna - but I see why she's as big as she is... she changes with the times which is amazing but I've never liked her singing and I don't think she can sing live.
“But I did meet her, this guy was like, 'Madonna's here, do you wanna say hello?' I was like, 'Well I'm not a huge fan, I wouldn't know what to say' and he was like 'Oh come on' so I went over.
“I was really nervous - whether you like her or not, she's still Madonna! I just said 'hello, pleased to meet you' and she just looked at my hand and said 'what do you do?' and I just felt really awkward and thought, 'Ahh, I've been snubbed by Madonna!'... I did think it was a bit rude but you get over it. I would've been kind of disappointed if she was really nice though, you know?”
Madonna still considers London her home!
Category: Interviews & Statements.
More details comes from the 2 pages interview published today by Britain's The Sun. Madonna insists she still considers London her home.
She says the regular visits to the city are good for her youngest child, Mercy, because many of her London-based friends have children of similar ages to Mercy.
"A lot of my girlfriends here have kids so she (Mercy) has playdates every day."
"I still think of this as my home. I really miss my house here when I'm away. I love being here. I've missed my friends and it's nice to drive on the wrong side of the road again."
Madonna also says that Mercy has fitted right in with the rest of her brood - Lourdes, Rocco and David. She adds, "She fits right in with her brothers and sister."
Madonna talks about her and Michael Jackson and blames Jackson's childhood.
Category: Interviews & Statements.
Madonna credits her "normal childhood" for not falling victim to superstardom like Michael Jackson -- insisting having such a credible career so young was "unearthly."
The Material Girl told the world of her grief after hearing of the "Thriller" hitmaker's death last week, confessing to fans that she couldn't stop crying in the hours following his passing.
The tragic demise of her most famous contemporary came as an extra shock as she was putting plans in motion to make a special appearance at Jackson's London comeback gigs.
But the star will never have the chance to perform with Jackson -- admitting it is a devastating blow as she has always looked up to him.
She tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "I am so terribly sad about Michael Jackson's death. I don't know what artist wasn't inspired by him.
"To be able to do what he did at such an early age was unearthly; everybody grew up in awe of him."
Madonna looks back on her short-lived friendship with Jackson in the early 90s with fondness -- insisting she loved to "pick his brains" about his musical talents.
She explains, "To work with him and become friends and hang out with him was exciting for me. I used to love picking his brains about musical stuff."
And Madonna recognizes that she became a completely different person to Jackson despite similarities in their phenomenal success -- blaming his tireless entertaining schedule when he was just a child.
She adds, "Obviously, we have very different personalities -- he was a lot more shy than I am. That's because I was allowed to have a normal childhood and he wasn't, so there was a vulnerable side to him that made you want to take care of him and protect him."
However, Madonna insists she will always remember both sides of Jackson -- admitting that the star completely changed when he stepped off stage.
She says, "He was a real paradox, one of the world's greatest performers and obviously very confident on stage, but in real life he was shy and you really felt for him."
Madonna will pay tribute to Jackson by involving a Jackson lookalike in her Sticky & Sweet tour when it returns to London's O2 Arena on Saturday.

Madonna 'Can't Stop Crying' Over Michael Jackson
By Mike Fleeman
Originally posted Thursday June 25, 2009 08:40 PM EDT
The sudden death of Michael Jackson jolted his friends and family, a second blow to the entertainment world after it lost another icon, Farrah Fawcett, just hours earlier.
"I can't stop crying over the sad news," Madonna says. "I have always admired Michael Jackson. The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever! My heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family. God bless."
Lisa Marie Presley, who was briefly married to Jackson in the mid-1990s, says, "I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible. I am heartbroken for his children, who I know were everything to him, and for his family. This is such a massive loss on so many levels, words fail me."
"My heart is overcome with sadness for the devastating loss of my true friend Michael," adds Brooke Shields, who raised eyebrows when she briefly dated Jackson. "He was an extraordinary friend, artist and contributor to the world. I join his family and his fans in celebrating his incredible life and mourning his untimely passing."
Elizabeth Taylor, one of Jackson's closest and longstanding friends, was "too devastated" to issue a statement, her rep says, while Quincy Jones, who produced Jackson's biggest hits, says, "I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words."
Cher, calling in to Larry King Live on CNN, shared many memories of Jackson, including dancing together on the Queen Mary and seeing the musical Dreamgirls together. "I am having a million reactions," said Cher. "When I think of him, I think of this young boy, this teenager I first met … He was a great teenager, optimistic and adorable."
She also praised his talent. "He was a great singer. You can't write him off as just a pop [star]. He was a genius like Ray Charles … He had a gift… He was able to connect with people."
Whitney Houston, who has battled her own demons and is on the verge of a comeback, just as Jackson was, released a statement saying simply, "I am full of grief."
Actress Jane Fonda used Twitter to express her grief writing, "I am stunned. My friend, Michael Jackson is dead. He lived with me for a week on the Golden Pond set after 'Thriller.' "
Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy, which honored Jackson with 13 Grammys, says, "Rarely has the world received a gift with the magnitude of artistry, talent, and vision as Michael Jackson. He was a true musical icon."

Adam Lambert was intimidated when he met Madonna.
Category: Interviews & Statements.
From MTV.ca:
During his nearly flawless run on "American Idol," Adam Lambert seemed unshakably confident. The San Diego native was so comfortable onstage that even the rare negative comment from the judges seemed to bounce off his glittery armor without leaving a scratch.
But, like just about anybody, that confidence was tested when he met Madonna. In his interview for the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine, Lambert describes how his "Idol" trip has resulted in so many of his wildest dreams coming true. "Everything that I always thought was a fantasy is actually happening," he said. "And it's a testament to imagination and doing whatever the f--- comes to my mind."
Case in point: meeting Madonna. Months before being introduced to the nation on "Idol," Lambert had met Madonna guitarist Monte Pittman and the two collaborated on some original songs last year for the Los Angeles performance revue, "The Zodiac Show."
Zodiac co-creator and director Lee Cherry told MTV News earlier this year that the two hit it off and came up with some mind-blowing music, including the viral-video glam-rock hit, "Crawl Thru Fire." Cherry said the very first night the two met they wrote an original song, and they quickly established a close partnership.
After giving her a guitar lesson, Pittman invited Lambert over to Madonna's Los Angeles apartment, according to the RS story, which doesn't specify when the meeting took place. "She had her guard up a little at first," Lambert said of the pop icon. "Like anyone would in that situation, but after she realized I had good intentions she was so playful."
Lambert says he professed to loving her music and being intimidated by her, which gave the power-dynamic loving Madonna the perfect opportunity to show the budding "Idol" star how it's done. "Oh, so love equals intimidation for you?" Madonna teased Lambert. Though she hadn't watched the show and didn't seem to know who he was, Lambert said the two talked astrology, specifically his moon sign, Aries.
"She said, 'You don't like anyone telling you what to do, do you?' " he recalled. "It's so cool, because she gets it, you know?"
Katy Perry was dumb struck after meeting idol Madonna.
Category: Interviews & Statements.
Katy Perry has revealed she could barely get words out of her mouth after meeting her idol Madonna for the first time.
The singer said she was thrilled to learn that Madonna liked her music during an interview last year.
And when the I Kissed A Girl hitmaker finally came face to face with the megastar, all she could mutter was “thank you”.
"I met Madonna after her show, with just her close friends and dancersm” The Daily Star quoted her as telling Britain's Glamour magazine.
“(But all I could say was) ''thank you''. It was all I could get out of my mouth," she added.

Madonna 'following adoption rules'

Singer 'following adoption rules'
Wednesday, 1 April 2009 10:29 UK
Pop star Madonna is not receiving any special treatment to help speed the process of adopting a young girl in Malawi, her spokeswoman has said.
Liz Rosenberg said the star was "not skirting any legal issues" in trying to adopt four-year-old Mercy James.
A Malawian judge held a closed-door hearing on Monday on the star's adoption application but delayed ruling until Friday.
Madonna adopted baby David Banda from Malawi in 2006.
"The adoption process for Mercy began over a year ago when Madonna met her on one of her visits to Malawi. The connection was instant and profound," Rosenberg told Reuters.
"Madonna's desire to adopt Mercy is totally heartfelt. She is not skirting any legal issues in her application to adopt this child and is looking to provide a loving family environment and the best education and health care possible," she added.
'Last resort'
Mercy has been living in an orphanage since her 18-year-old mother died shortly after giving birth, according to the child's uncle, John Ngalande.
Her father is believed to be alive but has little contact with his daughter, he said.
The Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) has criticised Madonna's adoption attempts, saying that adoption should be the last resort and that children need to be taken care of by their own family.
"Mercy James is a child who has her extended close family members alive and we urge Madonna to assist the child from right here," it said in a statement.
Earlier this week, the chairman of the HRCC said the star had "the money and the status to use her profile to manipulate, to fast-track the process".
But others have said that the adoption would give enormous opportunities to the child that she would be unable to achieve in the impoverished country.

She has been stepping out with model Jesus Luz recently, but Madonna is decidedly single – and happy to Tweet about it.
The singer – who is planning to adopt again from the African nation of Malawi – took to Twitter on March 25 in response to a comment posted to her pal Guy Oseary's account. "hello madonna," writes the poster, "honey am glad you are single again – you made your best music as a single woman! yeehaw!"
Tweeting back, Oseary wrote that he was sitting with Madonna, 50, and that she had this reply: "NOT AS GLAD AS I AM! M"
PEOPLE has confirmed that the comment indeed came from Oseary's account.

Singer Tracy Chapman Gives Props To Madonna
Category: Interviews & Statements.
From an interview in The Guardian:
"Is it harder for women in the industry in general? "Definitely," she says. "I was trying to make a case for Madonna the other day, saying that she's to be admired for her longevity in a genre that has mostly been for younger acts. Men are able to sustain a career into their 50s and 60s and still present themselves as sex symbols. With women on the other hand, people say, 'Why doesn't she retire?' It's just so unfair. So I have to give props to Madonna."

Madonna's publicist: 'no settlement finalised'

Madonna's publicist: 'no settlement finalised'
8:19AM Monday Oct 20, 2008
LONDON - Madonna's divorce settlement with her estranged husband Guy Ritchie has yet to be finalised, the singer's publicist says.
The Sun and The Mail on Sunday reported that the two had struck a deal over their finances and how to split their property. The Mail also reported that they had agreed to a custody arrangement for the couple's children.
In a brief e-mail message sent to The Associated Press, Liz Rosenberg said she would not be commenting on media reports that the pop star and her film director husband had reached or were about to agree on how to share the couple's multimillion dollar fortune and custody of their children.
"I will not be commenting on the various reports regarding the divorce or of the settlement which has not been finalised," Rosenberg said. A statement from Guy Ritchie's representatives in London also declined comment.
Madonna and Ritchie announced their separation last Wednesday after nearly eight years of marriage and Britain's tabloid press has speculated wildly on the outcome of the high-profile split.
Madonna and Ritchie married in December 2000 at a castle in Scotland. The couple are reportedly worth around US$525 million, the bulk of that belonging to Madonna. Ritchie has an estimated US$35 million fortune.
The couple have two children: Rocco, 8, and David Banda, 3, who was adopted in Malawi in 2006. Madonna also has a 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, from her relationship with personal trainer Carlos Leon.

A Few Words from Robyn…on Madonna
Category: Interviews & Statements.
From perezhilton.com:
A Few Words from Robyn…on Madonna
In response to Swedish media reports, which were picked up by us and a lot of other media outlets around the world, Robyn just sent us the following exclusive statement:
"Seeing that a lot has been reported about my experience of being on tour with Madonna in the press, I feel like I have to tell it like it is! So with my own words, here I go:
I got a chance to go on tour with Madonna in Europe and like any one who's been a fan of her since the age of ten I was super exited. Contrary to what you might have read elsewhere its been FUN! I've played to Madonna's audience in eleven different cities, all of which have received us well even though I was only the opening act. Me and my band got to know Madonna's production team and they were very helpful. Madonna's management was super cool and we hung out with the band and dancers and had a lot of fun with them. When I met her at the end of the tour she was really cool and natural. I got a chance to thank her for putting me on and she even told me she was a fan! It was a very special moment i will never forget.
When I arrived on the first day of the tour I was surprised by the tight security that involved us as well. It took a couple of days to find my place on this big adventure but the tour has been a once in a lifetime experience. I have gotten the rare opportunity to see an enormous production from the inside and get the chance to perform in front of tens of thousands of people at every show.
In one interview I was asked if I wanted a career like Madonnas and I said no, my worst nightmare would be trying to be a Madonna. She's an icon and a pioneer, but only Madonna can be Madonna. It would be sad to try to copy her model. Times are different nowadays as well. Even if I tried, it would be hard to build what she has achieved in the climate of the music industry today. I want to be me and work from my own small independent record company.
I want to be left alone in my creative process. I imagine she has lots and lots of people telling her things. Every one watches her every move. Obviously she can cope with that, but for me that pressure would be a burden. Too many other people have cracked under much less pressure in the music world and as a woman it's even harder to stay at the top. The peer pressure, fashion mags and media celebrate youth, beauty and the new in females and most people are lucky to stay around for 5 years. I learned that next to the president of the United States of America, Madonna must be the most famous person on earth whose every little move is watched by millions and a complete security state is surrounding her!
I´m from a little country called Sweden where even though a lot of people know me here, I still can go to the store and buy milk in my underwear. And I would love to keep that for me.
But who am I to judge her? Watching her on stage during the tour I could tell that she was really enjoying herself. She is probably doing exactly what she wants to do and that´s why she is so inspiring. I want to be like that as well, I want to be myself."
