Drowned Madonna: What do you think of Annie Lennox ''Sing''?
Dean Coleman: I thought the original song was great, I heard it when I got the parts to do the remix and I was floored when I found out all of the vocalist that had participated in the project with her.
DM: When did you start working on your remix?
DC: I started working on this remix in early August, I was in the middle of summer touring so I only had a two day window to do it.
DM: Tell us more about the creative process...
DC: I basically wanted to do something that would compliment the original but also allow this record to be played in clubs and on the radio around the world. I was working the top selling female vocalists of all time and I wanted their voices to take the lead and my music to recreate the original mix but with added power and depth. I played an organ onto the bass part and it just worked so well I ran with it. When Madonna came in on her part I wanted to really accent the energy and add another bass part there and modify it some. I wanted to keep a classic feel to the mix, I have no idea why it was just what I was feeling that day and it worked.
DM: What did inspired you?
DC: Annie Lennox inspired me, her voice is in perfect pitch and so unique it's almost hypnotizing. I knew this was going to be huge as I was working on it, it wasn't my typical sound for production but it came together in the studio big time. The longer I worked on it the more I fell in love with the song.
DM: Did Annie give you some input or make some request?
DC: No she didn't but she did thank me personally for it because I donated my mix based on the fact the record was a charity record for Aids. I really enjoyed doing it and I hope everyone enjoys it also.
DM: How long did it take to finish the mix?
DC: I spent about 24 hours on it, I don't have time to spend weeks on mixes and I think it either comes together or it doesn't. I mixed it down about 5 in the morning and knew I had it. It's not too hard when you have top notch vocalists to work with.
DM: Dean, what do you think of Madonna?
DC: I think Madonna is one of the most successful entertainers of all time. Her shows are flawless and I love how she has touched all styles of music. I still think "Ray Of Light" was an amazing album that influenced me personally as a DJ and a producer. I felt that album heart and soul.
DM: Thank you so much Dean. Anything you'd like to add?
DC: I hope that people will support this record so that it helps the cause in which is was intended to help.
