Drowned Madonna: Hi Peter, welcome to DrownedMadonna.com! When did you move from Austria to The States?
Peter Rauhofer: 1995.
DM: When did you play to Roxy for the first time? What are your memories?
PR: June 1999. It was always my dream to spin at Roxy from the first day I walked into this legendary club. I was the resident DJ from 1999 until now, 2007.
DM: How did Roxy change during the years?
PR: ...well New York changed big time. Everything got very commercialized and I think a lot of people miss the *good old days* but I always tried to keep the real New York vibe alive.
DM: The closing of Roxy marks the end of an era... Don't you think?
PR: Definitely. Roxy was unique and one of the oldest big rooms in New York City. It was a hot spot for almost 20 years and was still going strong. People will really realize how unique and special it was to the community once its gone.
DM: At the end of 2005 Madonna went to Roxy to promote her hit album "Confessions on a Dance Floor" with her partner-in-crime Stuart Price. You were there that night... she was your guest. What are your memories?
PR: Madonna wanted to throw a surprise party...and what a surprise it was!!!! It was one of the most exciting and craziest nights I ever experienced. It is very hard to describe. It was just legendary in every way. Madonna had the best time and stayed until 5am with her party. She was very sweet to me, as she always is and her amazing personality still makes me speechless.
DM: Peter, you are one of Madonna's favourite DJ's. You remixed several M trax, starting with an amazing remix of "Nothing Really Matters". How did you get in touch with Madonna?
PR: After I remixed "Depeche Mode/It's no good" in 1997, Maverick Records contacted me and told me how Madonna really likes my work and she is interested in me doing some remixes. That's basicially how it all started.
DM: Now that Roxy is closing for good, what's next for you?
PR: In April I will start my new Saturday Night Residency at the new Club Stereo in New York (which is done by Angel Moraes who also built Stereo in Montreal). I am very excited as it will be the beginning of a new era. Roxy was great and I enjoyed the last 8 years but I will never be able to duplicate that. It's time to do something new and fresh.
DM: Is there something you'd like to say to M fans?
PR: Take Madonna as an example to know that you can always realize your dreams if you believe in yourself.
