? Did you know that Madonna played DRUMS and SANG with the band "BREAKFAST CLUB" before setting up her second R&R band "EMMY & The EMMYES" in 1980.
Madonna moved from her native Michigan to New York in 1977, with dreams of becoming a ballet dancer. She studied with Martha Graham and Pearl Lang, and later performed with several modern dance companies, including Alvin Ailey and the Walter Nicks dancers.
In 1979, she became part of the Patrick Hernandez Revue, that had the hit "Born to Be Alive." She traveled to Paris with Hernandez; it was there that she met Dan Gilroy. Upon returning to New York, the pair formed the Breakfast Club. Madonna originally played drums for the band, but she soon became the lead singer. In 1980, Madonna left the band and formed Emmy with Gary Burke and Stephen Bray.
Together, Madonna and Bray created club tracks which led to a recording deal with Sire Records. A demo tape of these tracks worked its way to Mark Kamins, a New York-based DJ/producer. Kamins directed the tape to Sire Records, who signed the singer during 1982. Kamins produced Madonna's first single, "Everybody," which became a club and dance hit at the end of 1982; her second single, 1983's "Physical Attraction," was another club hit. In June of 1983, she had her third club hit with "Holiday".
Madonna's self-titled debut album was released in September of 1983; "Holiday" became her first Top 40 hit the following month. "Borderline" became her first Top Ten hit in March of 1984, beginning a remarkable string of 17 consecutive Top Ten hits. While "Lucky Star" was climbing to number four, Madonna began working on her first starring role in a feature film, Susan Seidelman's Desperately Seeking Susan...
"The Breakfast Club" was the band Madonna joined in 1979.

The New York-based group formed in the late '70s, around the core of Dan Gilroy and his guitarist brother, Ed. By 1979, the lineup featured bassist Angie Schmit and Madonna on drums. Madonna left the Breakfast Club in spring 1980 to organize her own band "EMMY & THE EMMYS" with her old Michigan friend Bray as the drummer and Gary Burke (who was also playing at the same time with the Gilroys) on bass, before being signed successively at Gotham Records in 1981 then to Sire Records in 1982.

Recently auctioned to private owner. Tell The Truth was the very first song Madonna ever recorded (with the help of Dan Gilroy of the band the Breakfast Club). In 2005 Madonna sang the chorus of Tell The Truth during an interview with Parkinson on UK TV.
We Live In A House Written by Joshua Braun, Janis Galloway and Madonna in 1982. US copyright registration# PAu-1-843-482. It was recorded with the group Spinal Root Gang after Madonna's roommate Janis Galloway introduced her to them. Janis Galloway later became the wife of Michael Rosenblatt from Warner Brother's. The song seems to be a social statement about the ignorant masses who remain at home rather than to pay attention to the world around them outside. Sample lyric "We live in a house, and people just don't care. We live in a house, they don't go anywhere". Madonna screams at one point "You can't come into my house". The guitar sounds are a little like the B-52's meets New Order and the Ramones.
