DANSK magazine pays homage to Madonna for her 60th Birthday
In the new issue AW08 “The New Sexy”, the prestigious DANSK magazine pays homage to Madonna’s revolutionary S3X book to celebrate her 60th birthday.
A photoshoot by photographer Henrik Bülow reinvents some of the most iconic images from 1992 Madonna’s S3X book.
Happy birthday, Madge – we love you!
Celebrating her 60th birthday this year, Madonna is still society’s ultimate symbol of s3x and s3xuality – and that call’s for a celebration. Happy birthday, Madge – we love you!
Where to begin with Madonna?
Like a virgin, a mother, a wh0re, and a witch, Madonna has through her far-spanning, 40-year career celebrated and critiqued all archetypes and dimensions of human desire, embodying them and subverting their registers through ground-breaking performance, sound, and image-making.
In 1992, along with her sweat-dripping album Er0tica, she released the highly controversial coffee-table book S3x, a collaboration with master fashion photographer Steven Meisel.
Unapologetic, transgressive, and deeply er0tic, it was to become Madonna’s most important contribution to visual culture and the culture of s3xual representation more generally. Arriving in the midst of the AIDS crisis, it was a celebration of human desire beyond s3xual orientation, race, and religion, and a big f*ck you to discrimination of s3xual expression.
