Alan Parker, director of Evita, died aged 76

Alan Parker, the British director behind a string of hits including “Evita” starring Madonna, died aged 76.

The news has just been announced. Alan Parker died today “after a lengthy illness,” a representative said.

In 1996 Alan Parker directed Madonna in “Evita,” a film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical.

“She really worked hard on that film,” Alan Parker said about Madonna playing Eva Peron in Evita. “whatever people think about her as an actor it’s very easy to be snidey, as the British are, of course but she’s pretty great in the movie. I don’t think anyone else could have done it as well as she did. No-one could have worked harder, and no-one could have given more to me as a director.”
